Merchants’ Academy Sixth Form Celebrates A-Level Success
Students at Merchants’ Academy in Bristol are celebrating a record number of A and B grades at A level, resulting in 92% of students who applied to study at university, accepting a place. Six of those students will be studying at Russell Group universities, reading subjects that include Medicine, Dentistry, History and Spanish to name just a few.
24 students from the south Bristol academy will be pursuing degrees at universities across the UK, with a further 11 sixth form graduates taking up exciting apprenticeships or work-based training.
Of the students studying BTEC diploma courses, all achieved at least two distinctions (equivalent to two A grades at A level) and 61% achieved distinction* (equivalent to A* at A level).
Principal Nick Short said: “I am delighted to see so many of our sixth form students celebrating fantastic results, earning places at top universities and securing competitive apprenticeships. It is through hard work and commitment that Merchants’ Academy sixth formers will go on to build successful futures for themselves and their families. I wish every one of them the very best of luck as they take this next step in their educational journey.”
Molly Hiscox from Bedminster is just one of the many success stories from Merchants’ Academy. Molly, 18, who joined Merchants’ Academy Sixth Form having completed her GCSEs elsewhere, will be reading Medicine at the University of Bristol. Molly’s dad, Paul Hiscox, said: “We chose Merchants’ Academy Sixth Form because of the small class sizes and the vision of the Academy. As a result, Molly will now begin the journey to fulfil her dream of becoming a doctor. We are so proud of what she has achieved.”
Lauren Price, 18, from Hartcliffe and Ledina Shabani, 18 and from Withywood, are celebrating fantastic results that have secured them a place at the University of Bristol. Both students have attended Merchants’ Academy since the age of 11 and are thrilled to be going to university in September. Lauren will read Hispanic Studies and Ledina will begin a five-year course to study Dentistry.
