Sharing the joy of live classical music, this month the Bristol Beacon hosted a fantastic interactive concert designed especially for Bristol’s Care Home community, with 17 different care homes in attendance. SMV’s Chief Executive, Caroline Duckworth DL, and the Chair of SMV’s Care for Older People Committee, Dr Jacqueline Cornish OBE, accompanied residents and staff from Katherine & Griffiths House in Westbury-on-Trym to hear the hugely talented Sinfonia Smith Square Orchestra deliver an unforgettable afternoon of musical storytelling.
Conducted by Matthew Kofi Waldren, the concert included some of the most iconic operatic overtures, combined with fun interactive moments that brought the music and the musicians off the stage and into the auditorium, much to the delight of the audience!
Each year, the Sinfonia Smith Square’s renowned orchestral Fellowship programme brings together 34 of the world’s most promising emerging musicians, who perform in world famous venues across the country. They really were phenomenal, and their energy radiated throughout the entire venue.
Bristol Beacon describes itself as ‘a place of welcome, warmth and light’ – and it certainly is that – and so much more. The charity’s ongoing mission to bring joy to older people through music projects continues to make an enormous difference across the city, helping to reduce loneliness, build confidence and connect communities.
