David Marsh is now retired, but maintains an active interest in SMV's work with older people and Collegiate School. Until recently he was a trustee of the Old Vic Theatre School, and active with the refurbishment of St George’s Bristol. Previously he was involved in the development of visitor attractions on the Harbourside for the Millennium and with the Guild of Friends of Bristol Children’s Hospital.
His career as a lawyer was in corporate and commercial work, and as Managing Partner - then Senior Partner - of Burges Salmon in Bristol. In the past he has been Chairman of Business West and President of the Bristol Chamber of Commerce.
He has served SMV as Master, as Chair of the Charity and Care for Older People committees, and as Chairman of Governors at Colston’s School (now known as Collegiate School).
David was born in Bristol and was educated at Bristol Grammar School, Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Wakefield, and University College Oxford. He worked in London for five years before returning to his native city.
He lives in Wrington (where he is active with local charities) with his wife Pippa, a retired Bedminster GP, and has 2 children and 4 grandchildren.
