Prof Joe McGeehan CBE DL

Professor McGeehan completed his PhD in 1971 from the University of Liverpool and since then has been instrumental in many aspects of research and teaching in the field of Communications.

He has been conducting research and development into mobile communications technologies and systems since 1973 and his achievements in research have been acknowledged by membership of a number of national and international committees in the field of Communications.

From 2001-2010, Professor McGeehan was a Main Board Member of Renishaw plc, the last four years as Senior Independent Director, and a Business Board Member of the West of England LEP from 2011-2016 with responsibility for High Tech.

Professor McGeehan’s involvement in Communications over several decades led to him being awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2004 for ‘Services to the Communications Industry’. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1994 and in 2004 he was ranked sixth on a global list of technology innovators by Silicon Valley's silicon.com (USA).

Professor McGeehan is Emeritus Professor of Communications Engineering at the University of Bristol and Senior General Advisor to the Toshiba Corporation.
