Lucio Mesquita

Member since 2023

Lucio Mesquita began his career as a journalist in his native Brazil before joining the BBC World Service in London in 1991, where he held a number of senior editorial and managerial roles. He moved to Bristol when he was appointed the BBC’s regional head in 2007. Lucio has since left the BBC to develop an international media and journalism consultancy practice, but he and his family have made the Bristol city-region their home.

Lucio has a keen interest in diversity and inclusion through education and improved opportunities for all. When at BBC Bristol, he helped develop and launch the BBC’s first ever partnership with a city, bringing together key stakeholders to further grow the region’s creative sector, and launched a pioneering mentoring project with UWE Bristol to help make the media sector more inclusive.

He is a member of the Anchor Society, a non-executive director of St Pauls Carnival CIC, chairs the board of trustees at the Alliance of Sport in Criminal Justice, and is a member of the board of trustees at the Park Centre in Knowle West.

Previous voluntary roles include as governor at two South Bristol primary schools and board positions at both the Creative Youth Network and Ujima Radio.
