Autumn highlights at Katherine & Griffiths House

Residents and staff at Katherine & Griffiths House in Westbury-on-Trym have been enjoying an action-packed activities programme filled with the usual mix of fun, laughter and celebration.

A recent highlight was taking part in Silver Sunday at the RWA, where residents joined creative workshops and explored the Annual Open Exhibition as part of Age UK’s national celebration of older people. Other popular trips out included a visit to Clifton and the iconic Suspension Bridge, a leisurely afternoon browsing at The Mall, an engaging exploration of Bristol’s M Shed museum, and a fascinating day aboard the SS Great Britain.

The award-winning Wellbeing Team have also delivered a full range of activities at home. Yoga sessions with Lucy from Yoga for All Bristol have been a huge hit, with the room packed with residents wanting to take part. Moving to a more upbeat tempo, residents also enjoyed a lively evening with the University of Bristol Swing Dance Society.

Residents thoroughly enjoyed the Diwali celebrations, baking delicious Nankhatai biscuits together; and later in the month a Halloween-themed evening included a screening of Phantom of the Opera and a spooky cocktail!

Congratulations were in order when Katherine & Griffiths House was named Care Home of the Year at the Care and Support West Annual Care Awards 2025; and Deputy Manager Sue Thorne won the coveted Rainbow Heart Award, recognising her creativity, resilience and compassion.

Once again, the One Wish Project has been a particular highlight, with resident Myrna wishing to attend a classical concert. The Wellbeing Team arranged for Myrna and her friends from the home to attend a fantastic concert at St George’s Bristol featuring the Regency String Quartet.

Meanwhile, the Around the World Cruise continued with a taste of Germany, complete with a delicious three-course meal and Oktoberfest-inspired activities.

Before winter sets in, everyone has been making the most of the autumn sunshine, spending time on the decking and in the peaceful grounds, taking in the fresh air and watching the colours change with the season.
