Students at V6, the co-educational post-16 provision at Colston’s Girls’ School (CGS), to be renamed Montpelier High School from September, are celebrating another outstanding set of A-level and BTEC results.
19% of all A-level grades at V6 this year are A*, 41% A*-A and 66% A*-B, with the average A-level grade a B+.
Amongst a wide range of courses that V6 graduates will study from September are Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Optometry, Paramedic Science, Pharmacy, Radiotherapy and Oncology; as well as Computer Science, Cosmetic Science, Aeronautics with Astronautics and Spacecraft Engineering, English, Journalism and International Relations.
University destinations include King’s College, University College London and Queen Mary; Edinburgh, Durham, Cardiff and UEA East Anglia. Many students have chosen to study at the University of Bristol, the co-sponsor of Venturers Trust, having taken up the excellent Bristol Scholar offer.
Students were given the choice of receiving their results by email or collecting them in person at CGS today. Most arrived in school this morning where there was a jubilant atmosphere as students celebrated their results with classmates and teachers.
Exceptional individual achievements include four A*s for Natalie Williams who will read Law at University College London; Tess Cramer who will read Marine Biology at the University of Plymouth; and Maman Naeem who will join her sister, also a V6 alumni, to read Medicine at the University of Bristol.
Maman said: “The last eighteen months have been really hard, especially applying for a course like Medicine during a pandemic, but the teachers at V6 have always been here for me and they couldn’t have done more.”
Megan Walker achieved three A*s and an A in EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) and will now study Veterinary Science at the University of Edinburgh. In addition, Tulin Carter achieved three A*s and a B and will read Film and German at the University of Bristol, with a year in Germany.
All with three A*s are Esme Brand (reading Geology at Durham University), Rhona Gardner (reading Linguistics at Lancaster University), Amara Willis (reading Chemistry at Durham University) and Ines Touaitia (reading Medicine at the University of Liverpool).
With hat tricks of A*/As are Veronika Lapuridi with A*A*AB, Antonia Williams with A*AA, Jenny Xie with A*AA, Jady Thior with A*A*A and an A* in EPQ, Carla Chan with A*A*A and an A* in EPQ, Iman Tazaoui with A*A*A, Felisha Muvenjera with A*AA, Olakitan Delano with A*AA and an A in EPQ, Shamira Sutherland with Distinction*AA, Naomi Priddle with AAA, Farzana Ali with AAA and William Giannerini with AAB and A in AS Further Maths.
Naomi Priddle will undertake a Level 4 music course to apply to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with the intention of studying Opera, but with AAA including Maths and Physics, Naomi says that her “back-up plan is to study Astrophysics!”.
V6 has established a strong track record for students making exceptional progress during their time in the sixth form. Particular congratulations this year go to the following students who made outstanding progress from their GCSE results to their current results: Felisha Mwenjera; Iman Ali Mohamed, Shamira Sutherland; Ricky Bains; Hannah Pike; Ruth Gbao; Sajida Khan; Louise Clench Kiran Ansar and Moustafa Muhumud.
Ruth Gbao said: “I’m so delighted with my results and I can’t wait to start my Pharmacy Apprenticeship.”
Head of Sixth Form, Caroline McClean, said: “We are so proud of the exceptional results and progress that students have made this year, particularly in the extremely challenging Covid context. The superb support received from staff, parents, the wider school community and our sponsors, the Society of Merchants Venturers and the University of Bristol, has helped students to achieve not only outstanding outcomes, but also fantastic destinations which will enable them to achieve highly, whatever their chosen career goals.”
Principal Kerry McCullagh said: “This has been an unprecedented year for this cohort of students who have experienced real turbulence over their two-year period of study. These excellent results reflect their perseverance and resilience, as well as their academic resolve. All students this year have met the standards of the grades they have been awarded. Teacher Assessed Grades vigorously tested students and the benchmarks are absolutely the same as in external examination years.
“With the expertise and dedication of our wonderful teaching team and the support of our wider school community, these excellent results are a tribute to these young people and the unwavering support of their families who helped to keep students focused on their studies during the periods of lockdown and remote learning. Everyone at V6 and CGS is proud and excited to see the positive difference these compelling individuals will make to their fields of future study and work.”
Chair of Trustees, Gail Bragg, said: “Once again, the students at V6 have demonstrated what can be achieved with hard work and a determination to succeed. Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, staff and students remained focused, which is clearly evident in today’s excellent results. Congratulations to all of our sixth form graduates who will now begin the next chapter in their educational journey, moving on to study a range of interesting university courses across the country, or starting high-quality apprenticeships as they begin to carve out rewarding careers.”
V6 is a collaborative venture between CGS and Fairfield High School.
