Black South West Network: CultureBiz Connect Incubator Programme

We were privileged to host a hugely talented group of creatives from Black South West Network’s CultureBiz Connect Incubator Programme at Merchants’ Hall. An initiative that is quite literally transforming the landscape for Black and Minoritised arts and culture creative talent, the programme provides the tools, structure, guidance and insights needed for artists and cultural producers to break down barriers and flourish in their industry.

The key topics that are addressed during the CultureBiz Connect six-week incubator programme cover all the essentials of freelance or business practice, such as acquiring legal knowledge, building a brand and networks, and making the most of grants and access to funding.

The latest cohort to take part in the intensive development programme are 15 global majority artists who have been working together since April.

Funded primarily by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority and Arts Council England, Black South West Network’s CultureBiz Connect Incubator Programme addresses the unique challenges that prevent underrepresented artists and cultural producers from thriving in the sector, particularly when it comes to making sustainable futures and gaining wider recognition for creative output.

It was a real honour to be asked by Black South West Network to help support this initiative through time, energy, expertise and space, and we hope to have the opportunity to support future cohorts. In the meantime, look out for their September showcase where the current group of talented artists will be presenting their fantastic work to the public.
